A-Tisket, A-Tasket, A-Teeny Tiny Basket....

Here is the tutorial for a very cute, teeny basket! Perfect for all your small things!

Supplies and cutting:

Cut 2 exterior fabrics measuring 10" wide by 6" length

Cut 2 lining fabrics measuring 10" wide by 6" length

Cut two handle fabrics measuring 3"wide by 6" long

Cut 2 pieces of fleece 10" wide by 6" length. I used a one-sided fusible fleece, but you can use batting.

_______________________________________________________________________

Begin with the exterior pieces and cut a 2" square on both the right and left bottom corners.

Repeat with the lining and the fusible fleece.

Adhere the fusible fleece to the wrong side of the exterior pieces. Quilt as desired. Set aside.

To make the handles, press the handle strips in half lengthwise with wrong sides facing. Open, and with the wrong side facing you, press 1/2 of the long side of the strip to the center crease. Repeat on the other long side of the strip. Close the strip and give it a press. Top stitch along both sides of the 6" handle.

Find the top center on the front of both exterior pieces. Using a disappearing pen, make a mark 1" to the right of the center. Make a mark 1" to the left of the center.

Place a handle end so the inside edge is lined up with the mark. Repeat with the other end of the handle. You should have a space of 2" between handles. Baste in place.

To make the body of the basket, use a 1/4" seam allowance and with the right sides of the exterior pieces facing, sew along the short sides of the exterior. Then sew a 1/4" seam along the bottom of the exterior.

You should have the 2" square area open. Pull the bottom of the basket up to one side and match seams. Pin.

Sew a 1/4" seam. This will create a boxed corner for your basket. Repeat on the other side.

Turn the basket right side out and gently push the corners out.

Make the lining in the same way as the body of the bag. You will not have interfacing or handles on the lining. When you sew the sides and bottom of the lining, leave a 3" opening in the bottom seam of the lining. This opening will be for turning the bag through.

Place the exterior bag, with the right side facing out, inside the lining. The wrong side of the lining will be facing out. Match the side seams. Tuck the handles inside between the exterior and the lining. The right side of the lining and the exterior will be facing.

Using a 1/4" seam allowance, sew along the top opening to attach the lining to the exterior. Gently pull the basket through the opening in the bottom of the lining.  Smooth the lining inside the basket. Sew the opening in bottom lining closed. Top stitch around the top of the basket and give your basket a good press.

There are so many ways you can dress up the basket! Add lace or ric-rac to the top or maybe add a tag. Make the exterior patchwork! Let your imagination go wild!!!
