HO-HO-HO Garland
Our Sunny Day elves have been busy decking the halls for the holidays!
And the halls are looking very festive, indeed, with our Sunny Day Ho-Ho-Ho Garland!
So how about stitching up your own garland? It’s fast, easy and super cute! We especially love this garland in Little Joys by Elea Lutz.
1.Choose several different fabrics and cut 2″ strips from these fabrics. You will need enough strips to create a 22″ X 6″ piece of patchwork.
2.With right sides facing, stitch the strips together along the long edge. To make my patchwork more scrappy, I made 3 units of 5 strips stitched together. Press all seam allowances in the same direction.
3.Sub-cut the pieced strips into 2″ segments and sew the segments together to make a piece of patchwork.
4.After your patchwork is at least 22″ X 6″, press well. Cut a piece of fusible fleece the same size as the patchwork panel. Press the fusible fleece to the wrong side of the patchwork.
5.Lay the patchwork, wrong sides facing, on the backing fabric. The backing fabric should be slightly larger that the patchwork piece. Secure with pins or temporary basting spray.
6.Machine quilt the layers together.
7.Place the HO-HO-HO letters on top of the quilted patchwork and cut out 3 sets of letters. Make your own letters or copy the file below at 100%. The letters are 5″ tall.
8.Arrange the letters evenly and machine stitch them to yarn or wool roping. Add pom-poms in coordinating colors between the letters and at the ends of the swag!
How easy was that?!
Hang your HO-HO-HO garland across the mantel or on the front door!
